Create Wisconsin Day

Create Wisconsin Day is an annual gathering drawing hundreds of Wisconsin residents to learn, network, celebrate, and speak up with one voice on behalf of the arts, culture, and creativity. Create Wisconsin Day, returning to in-person for the first time in three years, takes place April 12-13 at two locations in Madison.
The pre-Create Wisconsin Day conference on Wednesday, April 12, at Madison’s Art and Literature Lab, a creative community center, is devoted to professional development, networking, industry updates, and activating messages and strategies.
On Create Wisconsin Day, Thursday, April 13, at the Overture Center for the Arts, the Creative Action Breakfast, legislative visits, roundtable discussions, and learning sessions make for an exciting, action-oriented event. Messaging and energy prepares activists and leaders to connect with their elected officials to discuss the critical importance of investment in creative people, organizations, businesses and communities.

Creativity is the way forward for Wisconsin. The creative sector is a $9.6 billion sector, according to the US Department of Commerce, encompassing over 83,000 jobs – more jobs than the state’s beer, biotech and papermaking industries. Investment in the creative sector will help grow and stabilize Wisconsin’s creative economy, workforce, and communities. Wisconsin’s arts and cultural assets are more important than ever as we seek to revitalize the economy, develop a 21st century workforce and incubate, attract and retain talent, provide opportunities for all, and help our communities thrive. Investment in Wisconsin’s creative economy will help the state thrive and compete with Midwest neighbors, including Minnesota and Iowa, who are investing heavily in creative economic development initiatives to bolster quality of life and attract residents to their state. Read more in this case statement for creative sector investment.
Formerly known as Arts Day, this statewide conference is happening live and in person for the first time in three years. We’re pleased that the Wisconsin Poet Laureate, Nicholas Gulig, will speak at Create Wisconsin Day, and the next generation – already here! – of creative leaders will be featured throughout the two days. The program is still in development, so watch for updates.
