Do you remember playing pretend when you were a child? A stick became a sword while a playground became a castle. This ability to use your imagination persists when people create art, invent tools and think scientifically.
The purpose? To program machines, of course. Will our creative freedoms be further restricted or enabled by this? "Our findings move us closer to understanding how the organization of our brains sets us apart from other species and provides such a rich internal playground for us to think freely and creatively," said Alex Schlegel, the lead author of the paper, in a news release. "Understanding these differences will give us insight into where human creativity comes from and possibly allow us to recreate those same creative processes in machines."
