7:10pm – 7:50pm: Creativity and Imagination Somewhere in a Mop Bucket

Presenter: Stan Baines
Taking a look at creativity and imagination from an everyday perspective. When we talk about either creativity or imagination, we tend to focus on arts or education. This discussion will take a look from the perspective of a roll not typically viewed as creative or imaginative. We will be putting the talk into motion and seeing your imagination played out.

7:50pm – 8:00pm: Question & Answers

8:00pm – 8:40pm: Embodying Imagination and Adventures in Movement, Sounds, and Image

Presenter: Alexis Milligan, Charles Pan, Mary Blatherwick, & Mingyu Lin

Alexis’ approach to movement comes from the imagination through intention and story, with the knowledge that not all intentions are literal and not all stories are linear. Joined by pianist Mingyu Lin, multi-media artist Charles Pan and painter Mary Blatherwick, Alexis explores what might be possible through improvisation when these artists meet inside each other’s imaginations! Afterwards Alexis will facilitate a conversation of how theories of embodied cognition, narrative, and The Beholder’s Share can influence how we perceive each other and eventually bring us together through movement, sound, and image.

8:40pm – 8:50pm: Question & Answers

8:50pm – 9:00pm: Closing Remarks by Mary Blatherwick & Michael Wilson

7:10pm – 7:50pm: Thinker, Learner, Dreamer, Doer: Innovative Pedagogies for Cultivating Every Student’s Potential

Presenter: Peter Gamwell
For many years Peter Gamwell has been calling for a fundamental reimagining and restructuring of our learning environments – one that embraces the belief that creative potential lies in all of us – and that we need to create learning cultures that nurture that potential. This presentation will draw on ideas in his latest book, co-authored with Jane Daly. In this highly interactive and entertaining session, find out why this shift is even more crucial now than ever before, and how we can create environments that awaken potential in our students, in this way preparing them to survive and thrive in this age of complexity. Please bring along sheet of card stock, and a pencil! Join us for a great hour of sharing ideas on this profoundly important topic! Let’s Make the Extraordinary Happen together.

How do we successfully collaborate and innovate within complex social challenges – such as, within ‘wicked problems’, ‘problematiques’ and other related contexts? Here, creativity becomes a key enabler – with meta-cognition as a critical skill for engaging diverse participants. Come join us for a hand-on workshop on collaborating with creative meta-cognition!
