Patrick Newell, Tokyo International School

Patrick Newell believes his life purpose is to act as a conduit for others to reach their highest levels of Creative Collective Intelligence (CCI). To support this work, he collaborates to help create environments, learning models, processes, and frameworks with a futures-thinking perspective. In 1995 he founded the Tokyo International School (TIS) to offer a new kind of learning model. Patrick began focusing on the need for technological disruption in education, viewing each person as a scientist in need of learning environments that are more like labs to nurture our innate curiosity and need for experiential learning.

Patrick has a Post Graduate Diploma in International Education, is the co-founder of TEDxTokyo, a professor of Science, Technology, Innovation, Design, and Leadership at Shizenkan University and also founded the Living Dreams NPO to enrich the lives of displaced children in Japan by ensuring these children can participate in 21st-century learning through technology. As a member of the New England Association of Schools & Colleges Accreditation Think Tank, Patrick was instrumental in ensuring the 21st Century Skills were integrated into this model, helping to promote the needed shifts in education.

In 2009, Patrick together with the film director Gisli Snaer, created the documentary film 21:21. They documented children in an array of learning environments to tell the story of how you can align 21st-century learning with 21st-century learners, regardless of their background.
