Make Ideas Not War
Do you want to get involved for Ukraine and the Ukrainians? Here’s a way to do it. On 04/01 we from WCID Germany will offer an online idea workshop, which will deal with three topics (details see below):
1. How can we raise funds for Ukraine?
2. What ideas for concrete help do we have?
3. What do ideas look like to expand peace, democracy, and sustainability in the longer term?
How the workshop came about
This is terrible news reaching us from Ukraine. And for my part, I still can’t really believe that a European country was assaulted and invaded.
In addition, I have a more personal connection, as a colleague from our community of European WCID ambassadors is directly affected. I don’t have the imagination to picture what that means for her and other people. Since I’m not politically active in this direction and I don’t work in any other institution that is familiar with helping refugees, the question now arises: What can I do? My guess is that many people feel this way. In our community we discuss this very actively.
And on top of concrete help for our colleague, we would like to use the superpower that we as a community already stand for: creativity. I see this as the emergency that we’ve been training for all this time. Apply creativity to solve serious problems.
Pouring innovative power into this topic to help make the world a little better. And to bring together the wealth of ideas from people who want to make a positive contribution.
Details on the idea workshop
On 03/18 from 15:00-18:00 we from WCID Germany will offer this workshop online. I am supported by great facilitators from the agile community and the creativity industry. The workshop is free of charge – however, on a trust basis, we ask for a donation of 25€ or more to the Ministry of Social Politics in Ukraine https://www.msp.gov.ua/content/nbu-opens-fundraising-account-for-humanitarian-assistance-to-ukrainians-affected-by-russias-a-ggression.html (This is their official bank account for humanitarian and social help.) as a fee to participate.
The workshop is about three things:
1. How can we raise funds for Ukraine?
• Background: There are great organizations that take care of donations in kind. It seems important to us to provide financial support to these organizations and other local aid organizations so that they can obtain the help that is actually needed.
2. What ideas for concrete help do we have?
• Before the workshop, we will work out questions and problem definitions for which ideas are needed in cooperation with our colleague and other experts.
3. What do ideas look like to expand peace, democracy, and sustainability in the longer term?
• The war in Ukraine has a history, with some missed opportunities to prevent it, or at least make it less likely. Even if there are very urgent problems to be solved right now, we must not lose sight of the longer-term perspective.
The key: networking
In order to develop solutions as productively as possible, we will generate ideas online with up to a total of 100 participants for probably three different challenges, assess their usefulness in a rough sorting and supplement / detail the prioritized raw ideas into more stable solution approaches. Then comes a very important building block: the participants should connect in order to initiate the implementation of these solutions after the workshop. This can take many forms like carrying the solutions to different communities, teaming up with organizations that can advance the implementation, sensitizing people to the topic or winning them for campaigns or maybe even starting appropriate projects themselves…
We won’t change the world with a single workshop – but we can move something in the right direction.
