National Youth Indaba

A pivotal event that amplified youth voices and ignited innovations. This Indaba was a crucial part of National Youth Week, bringing together young leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to shape Zambia’s future.

The event focused on bridging the gap between youth aspirations and government action, promoting a future driven by innovation, empowerment, and inclusion. President Hakainde Hichilema ‘s attendance made it a unique opportunity for young people to voice their concerns, share innovations, and contribute to national development.

Program Description
The U.S. Mission to Yemen of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for past participants (“alumni”) of U.S. government-funded and U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs s to submit applications to carry out a program to the 2025 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF 2025). Exchange alumni interested in participating in AEIF 2025 should submit proposals to [email protected] by midnight Yemen time, February 13th, 2025. Please follow all instructions below.

Program Objectives:

AEIF provides alumni of U.S. government-sponsored and facilitated exchange programs with funding to expand on skills gained during their exchange experience to design and implement innovative solutions to global challenges facing their community. Since its inception in 2011, AEIF has funded nearly 500 alumni-led projects around the world through a competitive global competition.

U.S. policy goals and Updated Priorities:

All AEIF projects must address U.S. policy goals that align with administration objectives to make the U.S. safer, stronger, and more prosperous as outlined on the U.S. Department of State website here .

Themes and Objectives:

The U.S. Mission to Yemen will accept public service projects proposed and managed by teams of at least two (2) alumni that support one or more of the following themes:

1-Document Yemeni Cultural Heritage

This theme aims to preserve and promote Yemen’s rich cultural heritage by documenting historical sites, traditional arts, and oral histories. This initiative aims to safeguard Yemen’s cultural identity, foster national pride, and enhance global appreciation of Yemeni culture through comprehensive documentation and dissemination efforts.

Project examples include but are not limited to : digital archiving and accessibility, oral history and storytelling, traditional arts and crafts, cultural festivals and celebrations, educational programs and outreach, collaborations with international institutions, and media and documentary projects.

2-Promoting Transparency and Accountability

This theme enhances transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in governance builds trust in institutions and prevents corruption. This supports U.S. goals of promoting good governance and reducing conflict by ensuring that governance systems operate in the best interests of all citizens.

Project examples include, but are not limited to: Whistleblower Protection Programs, Transparency Workshops, Civic Engagement Campaigns, Media Training on Investigative Journalism, etc.

3- Improving Inclusive and Quality Education for Special Needs OR/Rural Areas.

This theme enhances equitable access to inclusive and quality education for special needs students OR those in rural areas by implementing targeted interventions that address their unique needs and challenges. This includes developing specialized educational programs, providing necessary resources and support, and fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes lifelong learning opportunities.

Project examples include, but are not limited to: STEM Education Initiatives, Scholarship Initiatives, Digital Learning Platforms, After-School Programs, Special Needs Education Programs, etc.

All AEIF projects must include at least one of the following:

Convene alumni from different exchange programs to build or expand an alumni network capable of working together on common interests and increasing regional and global collaboration of alumni.
Strengthen the relationship between alumni and the U.S. government to work together on activities that address shared goals and challenges.
Support alumni as they develop their leadership capacity and implement projects in their communities for maximum impact.
* Proposals that fail to align with the themes outlined in the program objectives and the new administration priorities will be considered ineligible. Additionally, all project activities must occur outside of the United States and its territories.
