Sahel Festival 2024

At the initiative of the ATG group, the first edition of the Sahel Festival in the Lompoul desert in northern Senegal was held in November 2009. The aim is to highlight the cultural and artistic richness of a region that is too often associated with negative aspects: poverty, drought, illegal emigration, terrorism, etc. Thanks to the involvement of artists from the Sahel such as Baba Maal or Habib Koite and the originality of the concept, which allows for the alternation of artistic highlights and other times dedicated to cultural encounters and exchanges, the Sahel Festival was a remarkable success for its first edition in 2009.

On the strength of this success, the organizers were keen to carry out a lucid reflection to allow the Festival to become a reference event that can offer a rich and varied program but also a strong concept of meaning for the survival and intelligent development of this thousand-year-old culture; this culture whose magic and subtlety can only be truly perceived by living it in its context. the dunes of the Lompoul desert! From this reflection, a number of strong points have been selected to outline future editions of a festival dedicated to desert cultures whose immense richness and social and cultural values are priceless. It is not a question of only of a heritage of the peoples of the Sahel but also of the whole of humanity!
