Songkran Water Festival
Songkran is a traditional festival celebrated in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and some parts of Myanmar to mark the beginning of the Thai New Year. The festival typically falls on April 13th and lasts for three days, although in some areas it can be celebrated for up to a week.
One of the most well-known aspects of the Songkran festival is the throwing of water, which symbolizes the washing away of bad luck and sins from the previous year. People splash water on each other using buckets, water guns, and other containers, often accompanied by playful and joyful activities.
During the Songkran festival, people also engage in religious activities, such as visiting temples and making merit by offering food to monks. In addition, traditional cultural activities like parades, folk dances, and beauty contests are held in many places.
Songkran is a time of year when people come together to celebrate, and it is considered one of the most enjoyable festivals in Southeast Asia.
