Startup Day
The Startup Day event comes under the patronage and presence of His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and is organized by the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). The “Startup Day” event is organized annually as a leading platform to stimulate technological innovation and encourage entrepreneurship by communicating with distinguished entrepreneurs, listening to their success stories and the challenges they face, as well as celebrating them and sharing their experiences. This year it is held at the recently-established CREATIVA Digital Egypt Innovation Hub of the archeological Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace in Cairo, Egypt.
This event comes to directly communicate with and honor distinguished founders of ICT-enabled innovative startups, carefully selected due to their tangible successes, whether by obtaining investments or financing for their innovative ideas, by being listed among the best emerging companies regionally and/or globally, by winning first places in prestigious local and/or global competitions for the best technological innovations and digital solutions, or by being selected for acceleration within top global business accelerators.
The meeting witnesses an open dialogue between His Excellency the Minister and the innovative entrepreneurs, where the Minister stresses the country’s full support for entrepreneurship as it is one key driving engine for building an economy based upon knowledge and creativity, pointing to the keenness of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to stimulate, encourage, and build the capabilities of entrepreneurship nationwide.
The Egyptian Startup scene has witnessed many successes recently for the Egyptian state to rank in 2021 among the top three states in MENA and in Africa concerning the number and sum of investments in ICT-enabled innovation-driven startups, whereas a total of USD 491 million was invested in 147 deals in 2021. The Cairo startup ecosystem as well was ranked in 2021 among the top fifteen globally regarding access to affordable talent.
