Joke Book

World Creativity Week is a global celebration of creativity and innovation. Miami University is a hub for the celebration and for our final project in ESP 351 (creativity in entrepreneurship), we have created our own unique way to celebrate! The theme for this year’s celebration is collaboration and sustainability, so we decided to develop an activity that encourages teamwork while engaging creativity. Our group created a template for creatives to use where two people work together to complete one joke. The first participant will write “the setup”, and the second writes the punchline. Creatives fire these off for 3 minutes and then switch roles for 3 more min.

Students from across southern Ohio were the main creatives who participated in this exercise. Our group connected with student teachers, campus daycare, elementary teachers, middle-school teachers, high-school teachers, and parents to get our template out. We recorded 280+ responses and counting! The goal of this exercise wasn’t to create professional comics, nor challenge anyone to create the “best” joke. The goal was to encourage collaboration and creativity, both of which were achieved to a high level by all the creatives who participated. Our group also decided to put together a book filled with jokes collected from this year’s celebration as a keepsake for the teachers. This year’s celebration has been a great way for us to connect with one another and ignite creativity through laughter and fun. Thank you to all who participated, we hope this celebration and others like it continue to inspire creatives around the world.
